Cooper River Bridge Run Unveils 2017 Design Created by Charleston Artist Tate Nation

We love working with the Cooper River Bridge Run, and we were so excited to attend the unveiling celebration of the 40th anniversary artwork last night at Alhambra Hall!

Julian Smith, Executive Race Director of the Cooper River Bridge Run (CRBR), unveiled the official artwork for the 2017 CRBR last night at a private ceremony. The winning design was created by Charleston artist, Tate Nation, who was also the 2017 People’s Choice winner. Nation’s design will be featured on all t-shirts, posters and promotional materials for the 10K, which will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017. His colorful design gives a subtle nod to the Bridge Run’s 40th Anniversary, which will be a large part of this year’s events and festivities.

There were 68 eligible designs submitted this year. In July, approximately 8,000 people voted in the “People’s Choice” survey, where Tate Nation’s design received the most votes. As the People’s Choice winner, Nation’s design was considered among the top 10 designs at a private judging and was ultimately chosen as the official winner. Tate Nation will receive $1,000, 100 posters, 24 t-shirts, and countless recognition of being part of this award-winning 10K.

The Bridge Run auctioned off all other design entries at the ceremony to raise funds for the Bridge Run’s 16 benefitting charities.

The Cooper River Bridge Run gave a special thanks to the presenting sponsor, Boeing, the grocery store sponsor, Harris Teeter, and 2017 t-shirt sponsors, Michelob Ultra, Gildan, Jim ‘N Nicks, Johnson Moving and Storage, The Post and Courier, and Departure Media. Their generous support is invaluable in making the Bridge Run happen each and every year.

Preparing for a Golf Tournament

We love spreading the word about Baker Motor Company’s fantastic selection of automobiles—from Rolls-Royce and Porsche to GMC and Cadillac. This week, Baker Buick GMC Cadillac partnered with Bulls Bay Golf Course in Awendaw to provide a Hole-in-One Car for the Club Car CPGA Pro-Official Championship. We enjoyed creating a partnership between the local automotive company and the golf course, organizing the details of this marketing opportunity, and developing signage to adorn the 2017 Cadillac XT5.

Even though this tournament consisted of many skilled, professional golfers, no one won the hole-in-one car this time, but over 150 players had the opportunity to check out the new Cadillac model.

Momentum Client indiGO Auto Group Sponsors the St. Louis and Houston Maccabi Teams for the 2016 JCC Maccabi Games

Our client, indiGO Auto Group, recently sponsored Houston’s Maccabi team traveling to the 2016 JCC Maccabi Games and the St. Louis Maccabi team attending the event in their hometown.

Every year since 1982, the Jewish Community Centers (JCC) of North America have hosted the JCC Maccabi Games, a gathering of more than 1,000 teenagers worldwide for a five-day athletic competition. The games provide an opportunity for Jewish youth to develop athletic talents and grow in a supportive environment. The goals of the event are to create a memorable and challenging week for participants and to instill the notions of mutual respect and sportsmanship—all while helping teens understand their Jewish identity and values. Throughout the JCC Maccabi Games, athletes compete with each other in a variety of sports while they learn empowering concepts of Jewish heritage: Rachmanus (compassion), Tikkun Olam (Repair of the World), and Amiut Yehudit (Jewish Peoplehood).

This year, the games took place in St. Louis between July 31st and August 5th. Team Houston and Team St. Louis included teens participating in basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, dance, and more.

We’re so proud of the leadership at indiGO Auto Group for being so involved in the communities in which their dealerships are located. It’s a pleasure to work with such a caring group of professionals!

82 Queen Featured on Food Network’s Local Flavor Series

Our client, 82 Queen, was recently featured on Food Network’s “Local Flavor: Charleston’s Fresh Shrimp” for their delicious BBQ Shrimp and Grits dish. The Local Flavor series focuses on different recipes made with various local ingredients from around the United States.  82 Queen’s BBQ Shrimp and Grits made an appearance alongside Roadside Seafood’s Fried Shrimp and Fleet Landing’s Lowcountry Boil.

Our rock star Director of Public Relations Emily Trogdon pitched this idea to the casting crew of Food Network, coached 82 Queen’s Chef Steve Stone (also known as Stoney), and was on-site during the filming to ensure that Stoney was comfortable and to make sure that this historic, popular dish was highlighted appropriately.

Driving the Range Rover Evoque

We’ve been having so much fun working on an ongoing review series for Baker Motor Company. Our Social Media Manager Julia Melvin and our Events and Content Manager Megan Busch have driven around town in a Porsche 718 Boxster, an Infiniti QX60, a Jaguar F-PACE, and now a Land Rover Range Rover Evoque convertible. This week, they gathered photos for Baker Motor Company’s social media and composed a blog reviewing the new Evoque.

Spanning the Gap: A Review of the Land Rover Evoque Convertible

By: Megan J. Busch

I’m not a girl who knows a ton about cars. I’ve driven Jeeps all my life (as has my mother), and I really haven’t veered off that track—ever. So, I’ve teamed up with the group at Baker Motor Company to try new things, namely cars outside my norm. A few times each month, I’ll be driving one of Baker’s cars and letting you know what I think. This isn’t going to be a series of Car and Driver or Motor Trend reviews. It’s just a girl sharing her honest opinion about some nifty vehicles.

Land Rover’s new Evoque convertible is a hybrid, but not in the sense that it has electric propulsion capabilities. Instead, it embodies the traditional adjectival hybrid definition—to be of mixed character. Aside from the Porsche 718 Boxster, this Evoque is undoubtedly the most fun car that I’ve driven for Baker Motor Company so far. It’s a beach wagon with a convertible top that makes me feel as though I’m eighteen again. On the other hand, the car’s character is sophisticated, high-end, and appropriate for a working professional. The chameleon-like automobile transforms from a practical vehicle with the top up to an exciting, youthful ride with the top down.

Not only does the Evoque seem to transcend the gap between teenager and adult, but it also covers the varying elements of the Lowcountry lifestyle. There’s no question that Charlestonians really love the outdoors, and the Evoque provides the necessary elements to traverse dirt roads leading to secret marshes and battle the floods of downtown. At the same time, inhabitants of the Holy City are classy, and the Evoque doesn’t cut corners on luxury, from the supple leather to the killer sound system.

I believe that this car compares most closely to a Jeep Wrangler. My first car was a 1996 purple Wrangler, and it had similar characteristics to the Evoque—minus the luxury (I had a tape player and hand-cranked windows). The Evoque takes that sense of excitement often attributed to the Wrangler and amps it up with features that are indulgent and elegant.

Prepping for Press with Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant

Our favorite local department store, Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant, will be featured in a beautiful photography spread in Charleston Style & Design magazine this fall. The luxury clothing and gift destination in Mount Pleasant recently underwent a renovation with a full remodel of the front façade and new high-end dressing suites for men and women. Charleston Style & Design’s fall issue will hit the stands in October, but this week, we’ve been busy behind the scenes preparing.

Momentum Marketing informed the magazine about all the hot news that has been buzzing around Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant. Since then, our Public Relations Director Emily Trogdon has been working with the incredible team of editors, writers, and photographers at Charleston Style & Design to compile a 4 to 5 page spread detailing the updated exterior renovation and the additional 2,000 square feet of luxury dressing suites. Plus, there might be a few fashion-forward fall tips revealed in the article, so stay tuned!

We love working with the incredible team at Charleston Style & Design. It is a beautiful publication, and we’re excited to see the final product. Look for the article on newsstands this October, and follow Charleston Style & Design on Facebook to read the article online once it’s published!

Fun Photo Shoot at Community Pizza House

We always love bringing on a new client, and we’re excited to be producing some stellar marketing strategies for Community Pizza House, a new eatery owned by the restaurateurs of Steel City Pizza. The cozy restaurant is located right beside Tanger Outlets (perfect after a day of shopping, right?). Eager to update their website and gather images for social media and branding, we called in the team at Old Tripod—for the second time this week—to snap photos of Community Pizza House’s delectable pies.

We can’t wait see the edited shots from Old Tripod and begin integrating them into Community Pizza House’s marketing plan.

Behind the Scenes at the Ashley Lanes Tavern Photo Shoot

We were so excited to coordinate and provide creative direction for a photo shoot yesterday at Ashley Lanes Tavern, a brand new concept from the team at Queen Street Hospitality (the parent group of 82 Queen, Lowcountry Bistro, and Swig & Swine). We partnered with Old Tripod to stage and style photos of the space, the food, and the drinks. Momentum’s Patti Travasos led the initiative by scheduling the shoot, ensuring that all needed photographs were taken, and making sure that each shot was perfect. Such photo shoots are made even easier with the incredible talent of Old Tripod! The photos will be incorporated into Ashley Lanes Tavern’s marketing materials—from social media posts to print advertisements.

Check out Ashley Lanes Tavern, open now at Ashley Lanes bowling alley in West Ashley. Read more about the new restaurant here.

Taking the F-PACE for a Spin

Last week, our Social Media Manager Julia Melvin and our Events and Content Manager Megan Busch hit the road in a Jaguar F-PACE to test drive the SUV for our client Baker Motor Company. The day spent cruising Charleston’s streets led to plenty of photos for the dealership’s social media and a new blog for their site. Check out our review below!

PS: Julia and Megan even made a stop at our favorite local retail store, Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant!

The 2017 Jaguar F-PACE: Beauty and Brains

By Megan Busch

I’m not a girl who knows a ton about cars. I’ve driven Jeeps all my life (as has my mother), and I really haven’t veered off that track—ever. So, I’ve teamed up with the group at Baker Motor Company to try new things, namely cars outside my norm. A few times each month, I’ll be driving one of Baker’s cars and letting you know what I think. This isn’t going to be a series of Car and Driver or Motor Trend reviews. It’s just a girl sharing her honest opinion about some nifty vehicles.

This week, I sat behind the wheel of my very first Jaguar—the F-PACE. As I drove, I found myself thinking two things. First, how do I pronounce Jaguar anyway—like I would pronounce the animal name or like the British voiceover who annunciates the u in the brand’s iconic television commercials? Second, what makes this F-PACE different from the Infiniti QX60 that I just drove two weeks ago? If I were deciding between the two, what features would really make me choose the Jaguar over the Infiniti or vice versa?

The SUVs are really both solid options. After driving for a while, I found that the Jaguar attracted more double-takes from passersby. The brand has made a name for itself in American culture, and the fierce cat adorning the grille immediately reveals the luxury of the vehicle. The F-PACE was sharp and precise in its movements, sporty in its demeanor, and reminiscent of a sports car. However, it didn’t seem like a purchase purely for fun (perhaps how some would consider the F-TYPE or another coupe). The F-PACE is practical. It’s able to seat additional passengers, tote anything from groceries to a SUP board, and roam through Charleston’s downtown streets with agility (even when there is a little flooding). The F-PACE excels at creating a luxurious driving environment, while still incorporating practical elements needed for a convenient commute or a long road trip.

Baker Buick GMC Cadillac Sponsors QDMA Lowcountry Branch REACH Banquet

The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) is a national non-profit organization with local branches focused on conserving the future of white-tailed deer, wildlife habitats, and the hunting heritage. According to QDMA’s mission statement, “Since 1988, QDMA has worked to promote sustainable, high-quality deer populations, wildlife habitats, and ethical hunting experiences through research, education, advocacy, and hunter recruitment. Baker Buick GMC Cadillac featured six GMC vehicles at the event—two Sierra 1500s, two Sierra 2500s, an Acadia, and a Yukon Denali. QDMA guests enjoyed checking out the trucks and SUVs on display throughout the night. Thanks, Baker Buick GMC Cadillac for supporting this local organization!

82 Queen’s She Crab Soup Recognized by Eater Charleston

This week, Eater Charleston released a list of “Charleston’s 16 Most Iconic Dishes,” and we’re thrilled to see our client 82 Queen on the list. Eater Charleston is known for their insider tips about the Holy City’s restaurant scene and their always-useful Heat Map, a compilation of local foodie hotspots. This particular list, published at the beginning of this month, features dishes indicative of Lowcountry cuisine. Of 82 Queen, writer Erin Perkins described, “Tourists love, love, love to visit 82 Queen for she crab soup. An almost too-rich combination of cream, crab meat, roe, and sherry, she-crab soup is said to be a throwback recipe from 1920s Charleston.” Not only do tourists love this quintessential Lowcountry spot, but locals relish in the shrimp and grits and downtown garden ambiance.

Congratulations to 82 Queen for snagging a spot on Eater’s “Charleston’s 16 Most Iconic Dishes” list!

Cooper River Bridge Run Appears on Lowcountry Live

Last week, Lowcountry Live interviewed Benita Shaw, Assistant Race Director and Volunteer Coordinator of the Cooper River Bridge Run, to discuss the upcoming 2017 race and the new poster and tee-shirt design. Although they’re not ready to reveal the winner just yet, the judges for the Cooper River Bridge Run design contest convened and selected an image for the 2017 race. The organizers are excited to share that design with the public later this month. However, you can check out the top five finalists in this Lowcountry Live interview.

Don’t forget to register for the Cooper River Bridge Run, scheduled for April 1, 2017. Thousands have already signed up, and the organizers expect the race to sell out this year. In conjunction with the actual race, participants will be able to enjoy “40 Days and 40 Nights” of celebrations leading up to race day. We’re looking forward to seeing you in April!

Checkin’ Out a New Local Venue: Sweetgrass Event Center

We love to always have the perfect spot in mind for any event our clients want to host. So today, we met with the team of Sweetgrass Event Center to take a tour of the newly renovated venue. What was once a church is now a highly luxurious space equipped with multiple party areas—the grand Sweetgrass Hall, the Gazebo Grounds, and the Gullah Room. The rental includes the use of the building and gardens (depending upon your rental agreement), a bridal suite, handicap accessibility, the option to tent the entire patio, and 75 on-site parking spaces. We were impressed by the blank open space ready to set the scene for anything from a Roaring Twenties fête to an intimate garden party. The venue’s rules are flexible, allowing event hosts to bring in their own catering from a professional company and choose whatever reputable vendors they’d like to help make the day extra special (although the team at Sweetgrass is happy to help with suggestions of trusted companies).

We were excited to see the transformation of the space—with updated finishes and top-of-the-line technology—and envision many different events in the heart of the Lowcountry for our amazing local clients.
