Ashley Lanes Tavern Brings a New Vibe to the West Ashley Bowling Alley

Ashley Lanes Tavern Opening Bowling Alley

If you’ve been to the Ashley Lanes bowling alley in recent years, you know that it was in need of some serious updates. The leadership at Queen Street Hospitality (restaurateurs of 82 Queen, Swig & Swine, and Lowcountry Bistro) saw this need too, so they started a revitalization project. With the opening of Ashley Lanes Tavern, a new eatery attached to the alley, the entire building is on its way up. Ashley Lanes is ready to offer delicious fare in a casual environment and to become a go-to spot for families to enjoy a night of bowling. Catch a glimpse of their new menu, stop in for lunch or dinner, and attend the grand opening party coming up on August 19th at 7pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Momentum’s Patti Travasos Co-Hosts Brooke Ryan’s Podcast

Yesterday, our Account Supervisor Patti Travasos joined Two Girls and a Guy’s Brooke Ryan on her local podcast Love this Buzz. The two chatted with John Barnhardt (Emmy Award winning cinematographer responsible for Les Cineastes with Bill Murray) and Alesya Opelt (Founder and CEO of Alesya Bags).

The group met at 82 Queen (a Momentum client) and had a bite to eat and cocktails at the quintessential Southern eatery while they talked about living and working in the Lowcountry. Curious about the topics of conversation? Brooke asked fun questions, such as: Who would you choose to introduce you before your presidential nomination speech? What’s one of your craziest stories? And what advice would you give to those just beginning their careers?

Momentum Girls Test Drive the Infiniti QX60

Social Media Manager Julia Melvin and Events and Content Manager Megan Busch hit the road for Baker Motor Company this week, test driving the all-new 2016 Infiniti QX60 to create quality content for the dealership. They drove around town, snapping photos and videos of the crossover at local Lowcountry spots. That test drive turned into a week of Facebook and Instagram content, an in-depth review for Baker’s blog, and plenty of images for promotion on the company’s website.

On the Road Again in an Infiniti: A Review of the QX60

By Megan Busch

I’m not a girl who knows a ton about cars. I’ve driven Jeeps all my life (as has my mother), and I really haven’t veered off that track—ever. So, I’ve teamed up with the group at Baker Motor Company to try new things, namely cars outside my norm. A few times each month, I’ll be driving one of Baker’s cars and letting you know what I think. This isn’t going to be a series of Car and Driver or Motor Trend reviews. It’s just a girl sharing her honest opinion about some nifty vehicles.

A few weeks ago, I sat in the driver’s seat of a Porsche 718 Boxster. If you missed my review of the zippy little car, you’ll want to check it out here. This week, the team at Baker put me in something completely different—a 2016 Infiniti QX60—which upon first glance, seemed to be a solid, practical investment. At the dealership, General Sales Manager AJ Geffert let me know that other shoppers felt this way, too. The QX60 crossover is the number-one selling Infiniti at the showroom. I currently drive a Jeep crossover, and the design has always been efficient for errands, hauling the bikes, or toting my dog, Scout, around town. Infiniti’s version definitely steps it up a notch.

Three Key Collaborations for Your Business

Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Such is true in business, and in the local market, collaborations play an important role in the success of an organization. When businesses work together to promote a cause, host an event, or garner new customers, the results are stellar. Check out these three types of relationships your business should be pursuing.

  1. Collaborating with a Cause: Non-profit organizations benefit immensely from partnerships with local industries, from small businesses to large corporations. Affiliating with a cause or non-profit not only gives back to your community, but it also creates a connection in consumers’ minds between your product or service and a cause they’re passionate about. Choose an organization you love or one that meshes with your brand (such as a soup kitchen to feed the homeless if you run a restaurant). The partnership will become mutually beneficial to both you and those you’re helping.
  2. Collaborating with Another Brand: Is there another company that complements your own? Perhaps you own a high-end bartending service and at a networking event, you run into a well-respected caterer. Surely a bond between these two businesses would be a positive connection as the caterer recommends your company to clients and vice versa. Local businesses that work together thrive in the community.
  3. Collaborating with an Event: You don’t have to build an event from the ground up to showcase your brand. Event sponsorship programs exist for this very reason. Partner with an event that attracts your own target audience. For instance, if you’re developing a natural, no-grain dog food formula and marketing that product to animal lovers, it would be in your best interest to partner with a local pup-friendly event. Consider the sponsorship carefully and ask important questions—Is the cost appropriate? How much exposure will I actually be receiving? And is it likely that attendees will become customers?

Collaborations are key in today’s marketplace, and the right partnerships and relationships can take your business from average to excellent. Need help figuring out which collaborations are right for your company and fostering relationships with local non-profits and events? Give Momentum Marketing a call today at (843) 377-8450, and let’s get started.

Baker Motor Company Showcases Infiniti Models at Last Party at the Point of the Year

It’s bittersweet to close out the season of Party at the Point, Mount Pleasant’s longstanding summer concert series. For the past several months, we’ve been working diligently for our client (and Party at the Point sponsor) Baker Motor Company to show off their newest vehicles to all in attendance. For this last event at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina on Friday, we showcased four Infiniti models—the QX50 crossover, the Q50S sedan, the Q50 sedan, and the QX60 crossover. Partygoers enjoyed getting an up-close peek at the Infinitis while they grabbed a snack and a drink and listened to the sounds of Sgt. Submarine, a local Beatles tribute band.

Many thanks to the Party at the Point hosts—Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, Ear for Music, and 105.5 The Bridge—for all of their hard work creating such an awesome event year after year!

LimRic Plumbing, Heating & Air Grants $500 to Katie’s Krops

Every month, LimRic Plumbing, Heating & Air gives $500 to a local non-profit organization through their LimRic Give Back Grant campaign. This month, the company presented a $500 check to Katie’s Krops, which empowers youth to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes. Katie Stagliano, founder of Katie’s Krops, is a 17-year-old with a passion for fighting hunger. She described, “Growing vegetables is fun, and it’s so great to help people. If I can do it, anyone can. It doesn’t take a huge garden; just a pot on your front porch with one vegetable plant can make a difference. If people (I hope lots of kids, too) could grow even one vegetable plant and donate the harvest to a local soup kitchen, we could make a huge difference in the fight against hunger.” David Miles, owner of LimRic Plumbing, Heating & Air was enthusiastic to donate on behalf of his company to Katie’s Krops. “It was a pleasure to meet Katie and learn about her passion for feeding the hungry through gardening all over the United States. We are delighted to help her business grow through the LimRic Give Back Grant,” he said.

Facebook fuels LimRic’s Give Back Grant. Through nominations and voting on the social media site, individuals can voice their opinions about which non-profit should receive each month’s grant. The charity with the most votes at the end of each voting period receives the $500 donation.

We’re honored to work with a company so eager to give back to its community. LimRic has a true passion for service and for supporting local initiatives!

Momentum Marketing Organizes Porsche 718 Boxster Launch for Baker Motor Company

On Friday July 8th, Baker Motor Company celebrated the launch of the Porsche 718 Boxster, and the entire team enjoyed showing off Porsche’s new model. We were so excited to work with the group at Baker to organize the event, decorate the VIP area, and handle the guest list. Baker’s guests were invited to Mount Pleasant’s Party at the Point, which takes place at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina. Fast Cars and Freedom: A Review of One Girl’s Joyride in a Porsche 718 Boxster

By Megan J. Busch

This week, I took a joyride in a 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster around downtown Charleston (thankfully with no wrecks and no speeding tickets). You can probably imagine that after my 15-plus years of running the roads in a Jeep, the zippy power and luxury of the Boxster was like taking a kid who has only eaten carrots to an ice cream shop. I’m not necessarily saying I don’t like my Jeep, but this was definitely cooler.

Cooper River Bridge Run Design Contest 2017

Cooper River Bridge Run Design Contest

Have a great idea for the 2017 Cooper River Bridge Run t-shirts and promotional posters? Submit your design in CRBR’s contest today! The July 15th, 2016 deadline is approaching quickly.

Here are the details:

All media is acceptable; the winning design will be reproduced and printed by 4-color process. The overall size should not exceed 30 x 30 inches (at least 20 x 30 inches is suggested), and it should be mounted on a foam core. A vertical orientation (where the overall width is smaller than the overall height) is recommended—keep in mind the proportions of a t-shirt.

CRBR recommends that the artist/designer include the following text within or around the image area:

Cooper River Bridge Run 10K // April 1, 2017 // Charleston, SC // 40th Anniversary

If this text is not included, the Bridge Run will collaborate with the winner to decide on text placement.

Drop-off Schedule: Drop-off Monday through Friday, 10 AM- 5 PM until July 15, 2016 at the CRBR Store, or ship to CRBR at 716 South Shelmore Blvd. #105, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.

Judging: The jury will meet in late July. A display of all work, awards, and a reception for all the artists will be held in August. The winning artist will be contacted by telephone by August 1st, and all others will be invited to the unveiling party (exact date to be announced).

Awards: The jury will be looking for one dynamic image to represent the Bridge Run as both a poster and a t-shirt. The winner will receive $1,000, significant recognition, 100 posters, and 24 t-shirts. The jury reserves the right to pick a separate poster and t-shirt winner, with each receiving $500, and the CRBR reserves the right to reject the selected image if it is deemed to be inappropriate or of insufficient quality to represent the event (such a decision by the CRBR would be extremely unlikely).

Please note that all entries become the property of the Cooper River Bridge Run, and if not chosen as the winning entry, artwork will be auctioned off to benefit the Bridge Run Charity Connection charities.  The winning entry will be framed and will hang in the Cooper River Bridge Run office. By entering the contest, you certify that this is your original work and you give permission for this work to be reproduced for purposes of publicizing the Bridge Run and/or the design competition.

Find out more about the Cooper River Bridge Run Design Contest here.

Momentum Marketing’s Julia Melvin Speaks at Charleston’s Social Media Day

Momentum Marketing Team at Social Media Day

Three years ago, Mayor Riley officially recognized June 30th as Social Media Day in Charleston. Each year since, social media experts have come together to celebrate the growth of the industry. Social Media Day 2016, held at the Charleston Museum, added a new element to the festivities—educational panels. Our Social Media Content Manager Julia Melvin provided her expertise in a crisis communications discussion, answering questions about how to handle clients’ accounts during times of emergency in the Lowcountry. The panelists specifically referenced the Emanuel AME church shooting, last October’s flooding, and the Walter Scott case. Some topics included:

  • Should companies address major city events on Facebook and Twitter? If so, how?
  • Should businesses engage in discussions about crises with their followers?
  • How long should a company wait before posting something crisis-related?

These questions were addressed not only by Julia, but also Molly Waring (Director of Media Relations at Explore Charleston), Lauren Mueller (Tourism Marketing Coordinator for the State of South Carolina), Cameron Wolfsen (Communications Coordinator for the City of Charleston), and Natalie Hauff (Media Relations Coordinator for Charleston County Government).

Our team was also excited to attend an informative #SquadGoals discussion that followed the Crisis Communications Panel. We heard from several Charleston bloggers, including Annie Reeves, CHS Food Writer, and The Cocktail Bandits, about their interactions with local companies and events. Jenny Dennis of SKIRT Magazine, Laura Kate Whitney of Charleston Wine + Food, Skelly Stevens of Polished Pig Media, and Ashley Mitchell of Charming Inns weighed in from a business perspective about collaborations with bloggers.

The day ended with a cocktail hour featuring small bites from Tristan, CRU Catering, and B. Gourmet accompanied by beer and wine from ICEBOX.

Need help posting thoughtfully and appropriately on your business’s social media accounts? Did you know that you can collaborate with local bloggers to grow your company’s audience? Let Momentum Marketing help!
