Pam has been in the marketing industry for nearly 25 years. She leads Momentum Marketing with expertise in database marketing, public relations, multi-media creative production, media negotiations, branding, web development, and social media marketing. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Purdue University. Pam, a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming who has 21 advertising awards to her name, founded Momentum in 2005, and has since grown the business to support clients all over the United States. She is the co-founder of The Charleston Basket Brigade, a local non-profit that raises funds to feed Thanksgiving dinners to local families in need. With a passion for outreach, Pam has also served as the Chairperson of the Global Tony Robbins Graduate Community, as the Professional Development Steering Committee Chair for the East Cooper Entrepreneurial Women non-profit organization, as a member of the Advisory Board for The Lowcountry Business Network, and as a mentor in College of Charleston’s MBA program.
Gillian has been a member of the Momentum Marketing team for nearly five years. After earning her bachelor’s degree in economics from Clemson, she left the rolling hills of the Upstate to pursue her MBA at College of Charleston. At our office, Gillian handles the Cooper River Bridge Run account and keeps everyone on track by managing all of the agency’s processes. She also serves on the board of the Asheville Half Marathon. Gillian can often be found sampling the smattering of new restaurants downtown, traveling near and far to see a great band, or running on the beach with her puppies, Lulu and Cricket.
Melissa grew up locally on Johns Island and has been designing for over a decade. She leads our design department with extensive experience in brand development, price & promotion layout and multi-media design in several business categories.
On a weekend, you can find her painting Lowcountry landscapes, off-shore fishing, baking, and enjoying time outside.
Although he was born and raised in Charlotte, Lawrence’s family has deep roots in the Lowcountry—his family has been part of the Charleston community for over 100 years. His marketing experience is vast, including years of work with Fox and NBC before launching his own firm in Chicago. Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Business from The University of Georgia. Feeling a draw to Charleston and his Southern roots, he moved to the Holy City in 2010 and joined the Momentum Marketing team.
A true innovator at heart, Alex is passionate about applying the latest technology trends to the development of new business for our clients. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Political Science from Elon University and later a Master of Arts degree in Interactive Media also from Elon University. Alex leads the digital marketing department at Momentum, managing campaigns for all of our clients. He has a master’s degree from Elon University in interactive media, and in addition to a digital marketing background, he has experience in national marketing, broadcast television, and print newspaper. On a day off, you can find Alex at the beach or immersed in the downtown food-and-beverage scene with his wife, Emily.
Derek Wacaster, Creative Director at Momentum Marketing, brings with him many years of experience; he began his career as a copywriter and a broadcast producer before transitioning into an even more creative role. Derek has worked for agencies in Little Rock, Arkansas and in Charleston supporting the marketing efforts for a host of varying companies—from small local businesses to giant global corporations. Derek says, “I love the business because no matter what product or service we’re selling, there’s a story to be discovered and told. It’s my job to do that. Not a bad gig to make ideas for a living.” Derek loves Charleston. “It’s such a treasure (maybe not the traffic part), with the fabulous scenery, wonderful food and friendly people. It was love at first sight when I first came here, and I’m proud to now call it home,” he says. On the weekends, you’ll find him on the boat or the beach enjoying “salt therapy” (as he’s termed it) or eating all the Mexican food he can find.
Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Spencer Willis, is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and dreamed of working and living in Charleston ever since he was a child. At USC, Spencer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies with a minor in Advertising and Public Relations. In his career so far, he has managed multiple high profile digital campaigns and has developed a keen ability to identify target audiences and determine the best methods of digitally presenting information to the audience. Starting at WCSC-TV, Spencer gained two years of digital media advertising experience in the Charleston market. Now, he continues his salt life dream by joining the Momentum team as our Digital Marketing Manager. Residing in Downtown Charleston, Spencer enjoys traveling, concerts, playing spikeball on the beach, and trying new restaurants.
Momentum’s resident fashionista, McKenzie has an extensive background in fashion brand marketing, public relations, and social media management. While earning her bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design, Merchandising, and Marketing at Appalachian State University, she worked in both retail sales and trade-show buying for leading fashion brands, such as Ralph Lauren and A’reve Clothing. McKenzie completed internships at Rent the Runway and CeCe Feinberg PR, based in Miami. Once she arrived in Charleston, she began her career as a marketing director for a local lingerie retailer and has since been recognized as a fashion and marketing expert by her peers, serving as the Fashion Scene Editor for StylePublic.com. She has been featured in Charleston Magazine, Charleston Style & Design, Skirt! Magazine, GearPatrol.com, and on ABC’s Lowcountry Live.
Megan has spent the past five years of her career in an editorial position at Charleston Home + Design magazine, where she gained valuable hands-on experience in not just writing and editing, but also marketing, event planning, social media management, website content development and public relations. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Charleston Southern University and her Master of Arts in English from College of Charleston. In addition, she has contributed to several other South Carolina publications on a freelance basis, has consulted on English curriculum projects, and currently teaches freshman English at Charleston Southern University each fall and spring.
Brittany brings over five years of experience in corporate events, working with brands such as Bugatti, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Christian Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana in California. After returning to Charleston, Brittany worked diligently to market and grow tech startup Unbooked. She studied at College of Charleston and graduated (with honors) with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and marketing. She’s a coffee lover at heart and a true foodie. On the weekends, you can find her outside exploring Charleston or curating her home with styled interior designs.
A Charleston native, LaKashia left home to attend South Carolina State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing. She then moved to Columbia, SC, where she spent 4.5 years working as an Automotive Advertising Account Executive at The State Media Company. After obtaining her MBA from Webster University’s Columbia campus, LaKashia returned home to take over an open Multi-Media Consultant position in the Automotive Advertising Department at The Post and Courier. With a combined 13.5 years of experience between The State Media Company and The Post and Courier, LaKashia has become well versed in the marketing needs of the Automobile Industry. So much so, that for the past year she has been managing the Marketing & Digital Sales efforts of a local Ford Dealership. In her spare time, LaKashia, along with her husband Thomas, enjoy spending time with their two-year old son, Brayden!
Liza Vilnits brings with her six years of experience and a degree in public relations from Boston University. After college, she began her marketing career working for a non-profit pharmaceutical organization. She then transitioned into a position at a fast-paced agency, managing PR initiatives for technology and cybersecurity companies.
What does she love about marketing and PR? Liza says, “I love being a storyteller. A brand may have an excellent story, but without being able to communicate it effectively—and in a captivating manner—that story can easily get lost. I love being the strategic piece to the puzzle.”
New to the Charleston area, Liza is loving the palm trees, the architecture of downtown, the array of fabulous restaurants in the city, and the welcoming Southern hospitality. On the weekends, you’ll find her hiking with her pup, riding her bike, running or listening to live music (jazz and reggae are her favorites).
Maddy Spellerberg spent nearly 4 years working for a full-service agency producing some of Charleston’s largest events, including the Volvo Car Open and the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. She is well-versed in public relations, media buying, event planning, and social media, but she loves to work on copywriting and project management, too.
Maddy is incredibly involved in our city’s community. She is a member of the Junior League of Charleston, SPOLETO Scene, and Charleston Young Professionals. She also serves as a Steering Committee Member for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. Nationally, she’s a member of the American Marketing Association. Bonus? She’s a TV host for “The Q” Trivia, too.
On the weekends, you’ll find her swimming in the pool, reading, experiencing a digital detox, watching football, or playing with her adorable pups.
A Charleston native, Megan Pinckney left the Lowcountry to attend the University of South Carolina where she earned a degree in fashion merchandising. She began developing her social media skills during her reign as Miss South Carolina USA when she was tasked with managing the title’s accounts across several platforms. Since then, she has helped a variety of brands, including her own personal lifestyle brand, expand their digital footprints and identities over all major networks. When she isn’t delving deep into the virtual rabbit hole of social networks, she enjoys exploring the world and has traveled to 30 countries so far. Megan also serves on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Ballet and enjoys mentoring young girls.
John Lee serves our creative and digital departments as our Digital Content Producer, developing interesting and eye-catching visual elements for our clients’ websites, digital ads, and social media platforms. As a graphic designer, he has over seven years of experience, some of which were earned right here in the creative offices of Momentum Marketing. He’s also an experienced photographer and videographer. Even on the weekends, John Lee loves to work on projects for clients and edit photos and videos to perfection. When he’s not working, you can find him on his longboard—earbuds in and iPhone on Airplane Mode.
Jamie Markey is a graduate of Salisbury University in Maryland and made her way to the Charleston area in 2015 to enjoy the Lowcountry weather, Southern hospitality, and beautiful beaches. While attending Salisbury, Jamie was able to juggle swimming for her school’s swim team along with working hard for her Bachelor of Fine Art in Graphic Design. Bringing so much to the table with her 12-plus years of experience in advertising agencies, Jamie’s past career consists of print production and digital channels, including but not limited to emails, banner ads, landing pages, website design, and iPad apps. Adjusting swimmingly to the Charleston lifestyle, Jamie enjoys exploring nearby cities in South Carolina, participating in marathons around the country, and listening to live music with her husband.
Before joining the Momentum team, Courtney Smith worked in the beauty business for almost four years at Conair Corporation and eventually transitioned into the automotive sector, representing brands such as STP and Armor All. In those positions, Courtney had the opportunity to facilitate partnerships with Richard Petty and NASCAR.
With her experience in brand marketing, events, and account management gleaned from her previous roles, Courtney is well versed in the execution of video and photo shoots, trade-shows, celebrity engagements, hospitality and event planning, promotions, packaging, print, digital, social, media, and POS for various clients and product lines.
Of her love of marketing, Courtney said, “Multitasking has always been the essence of my job. I am very detail oriented and am an avid planner, so I am happiest when I see all the pieces come together. I value the chance to bring ideas to life by utilizing my ingenuity to promote brands, companies, and experiences, and I take pride in seeing an idea through from conception to completion.”
Courtney just moved to Charleston from Connecticut this year and is eager to turn our jewel of a city into her new home. When she’s not working, you can find her running, being active, sunning on the beach, eating Italian food, lobbying for the love of pitbulls and bully breeds, singing, and cheering on the New York Yankees and Giants.
Christina Shuler earned her bachelor’s degree in business from the College of Charleston and set off on a career in marketing upon graduation. She worked as a multi-media consultant in the automotive department at The Post and Courier for six years, where she built relationships with many automotive, recreational vehicle, and boat dealerships.
After leaving The Post and Courier, Christina spent two years as the marketing manager for a medical center in North Charleston, handling all internal and external marketing operations. Although she gained invaluable knowledge and experience in the medical industry, she was excited to return to her roots here at Momentum by, once again, working in the automotive industry.
Christina said, “What I love most about marketing, is turning clients’ visions into reality and helping them set the stage for their stories.”
Incredibly rare, Christina is a born-and-raised Charlestonian. On the weekends, you can find her on the water, enjoying outdoor activities with friends and family, or eating at a local spot (on the water if possible, of course). Plus, Christina is a licensed esthetician who loves makeup and skincare.
Kayla Duclos was born and raised in Charleston. As a Digital Marketing Coordinator, Kayla has her hands on each and every account. From blog writing and social media to market research and brand management, Kayla brings an extra set of skills on deck to make the projects of the Momentum team flow more quickly and seamlessly. In her free time, you’ll find Kayla escaping to the mountains for a weekend getaway with her pup, running, or spending time with her family.
