Momentum Marketing Team Lunches with Charleston Area CVB

According to Oxford Economics, “The economic importance of tourism to a destination is commonly underappreciated and extends well beyond core hospitality and transportation sectors.” We know that all of our clients benefit from the influx of tourists in the Charleston area, from the restaurants we represent (like 82 Queen, Swig & Swine, and Lowcountry Bistro) to our retail stores (like Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant and Palmetto Moon). Today, Director of Public Relations Emily Trogdon, Account Executive McKenzie Welch, Account Supervisor Patti Travasos, and Social Media Content Manager Julia Melvin attended the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Annual Travel Council Luncheon at The Gaillard Center.

During the event, the girls heard keynote speaker Joe Diaz, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of AFAR Media, which publishes AFAR magazine. AFAR features in-depth articles about various cities around the world. Recently, the editorial staff put together a Feature Destination Guide for Charleston, detailing places to stay, restaurants to try, and stores to shop. Diaz spoke specifically about the importance of experiences to the consumer. According to Diaz, quoting information from Think with Google, consumers—79-percent of whom place great value experiences—spend nearly $600 billion on those experiences annually. Julia Melvin said, “It was refreshing to hear Joe Diaz’s input on travel as a mindset, not a demographic, when marketing a destination and to hear the importance of partnerships to drive new audience to your business.” His talk shed light upon the significance of local businesses creating enjoyable and memorable experiences for their patrons.

Fostering a relationship with the members of the Charleston Area CVB and other local professionals helps us stay up-to-date with Lowcountry happenings and the economic benefits of tourism in the Holy City!
