Google Reformats with Brand Name Overhaul

Two of Google’s biggest sites, Picasa and Blogger, will officially fall under Google’s brand umbrella with a name overhaul in the next six weeks. Picasa, Google’s picture-hosting site, will soon be titled Google Photos, while Blogger, the company’s blog-hosting website, will become Google Blogs.

All of this falls on the heels of Google’s newest and biggest brand and product roll-out of Google+. If you haven’t yet secured yourself an account for the new project that is currently still in beta, the social site is already in the works to be the biggest Facebook challenger yet.

While it’s still too early to tell if Google+ has the makings to be the next if not bigger Facebook, we’re excited to see how this new product will shift the social media landscape. While Google Buzz, Google’s most recent tryst with social media, failed to take off, Google+ blends the information-sharing capabilities of Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, and microblogging sites that connect users.  More than that, the Google+ Circles feature allows users to share news with everyone – a major bonus for those who still steer away from signing up to Facebook or Twitter, but want to stay in-the-know and be connected.

Sharing information with friends, family, colleagues and neighbors is only certain to get more engaging in the months ahead, and we can’t wait to see how Google+ adds a new dimension to the social media landscape.
