What’s the buzz with QR codes? Turns out their popularity is growing as marketers are using the smartphone-required device and reaching out to different demographics. Statistics continue to show that QR code usage is also on the uprise.

We’re fans of how Quaker is enabling the codes to tap into the kid sector: the food company has partnered with musician Nick Jonas to offer fans a personalized message when they scan the back-of-the-box code. First, the code tells fans to buy the bars; to unlock a special Nick Jonas message, fans must then enter a code found inside the box.

Fans are next directed to the Quaker website, where entering the code they receive lets them receive a customized a message from the star. To make it social, fans 13+ can then take that personal message to their Facebook wall to share with their friends.

Yeah, were are definitely impressed with this marketing train of thought that starts with a smart phone, directs users online to learn more and get a special shout-out, then lets them share it with their entire social network. It’s simple to follow for young fans, and it’s intriguing enough to make us adults want to go out and get our own personalized Nick Jonas message just to see what it’s all about.
