Last Night’s Big Game Was A Win Four-All!

The Super Bowl XLIX last night in Phoenix was way more than just an ‘edge of your seat’ football game down to the last twenty seconds. It was a landslide win for viewers, advertisers, sponsors and the NBC network.

The equally yoked match up between the Seahawks and Patriots kept viewers tuned in, unlike last year’s blowout which wasn’t able to engage viewers past halftime. Of course that translates into a WIN for advertisers and sponsors that dole out millions to get your attention (and keep it for the entire broadcast).

From the Mercedes-Benz Pre-Game Show to the Chevy Colorado Kick Off Show, Pepsi Half Time Show and Chevrolet Post Game we can only imagine the behind the scenes deal making that puts these brands center stage on television’s biggest night (and the insane price tag). Kudos to Chevrolet for creating a diverse collection of ads during it’s sponsorship time block to highlight the Motor Trend Truck of the Year, the 2015 Chevy Colorado. Mission accomplished!

Two great teams competing also brings more viewers to the minute after minute of multi-million dollar commercial spots. 2015 ad costs were reportedly $4.5M for a :30 second spot and $9M for a :60 second spot (that’s a hefty $150,000.00 per second).

We especially loved the positivity direction so many brands took in their spots. If you’re going to spend $9 Million a minute, why not make it a happy minute? Bravo to Microsoft, McDonald’s, Always, Coke, Dodge and Reebok for all delivering a positive message focusing on empowerment, happiness, life lessons and inspiration. It was a nice refreshing twist to the myriad of attempts at humor.

And finally, NBC emerged a winner. With so many station promos running, the network is bound to see an uptick in ratings from its nonstop primetime hype during each break. We counted about 10 minutes of promos (does that equate to $90M?). Hmmm. Plus the fact, NBC raked in mega millions selling spots nationally, regionally and locally.

Following a lackluster 2014 Super Bowl, we’re thrilled that last night proved to be a winning performance for all involved (especially the advertisers)! We’ll wrap up our sideline report by sharing a few of our favorite spots of the night.
