Facebook Timeline Covers: What You Need to Know

Our Facebook redesign for client NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton

With the switch to Timeline last month for Facebook, we rolled out a redesign for all our clients’ Facebook pages. We’re thrilled with the new look and how we were able to represent each brand individually, captured in photographs, text, or even fan-submitted images. (Check out the design for our client NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton for one example, which features an array of event photos, happy customers and community work that the dealership is involved with.)

We love how the cover image is bold, large and allows us to showcase what each brand and its fans are all about. It’s a big switch for Facebook and its users, and while the makeover can take some getting used to, it’s extra fun for us to have a palette that can be changed out frequently with the season or as new promotions occur.

How are you using the new cover spot for your business? Whether you choose to use a custom design or a photo from an event or of your work, there are so many options. Don’t get overwhelmed, but remember that this is the first impression potential fans are going to have of your Facebook page; therefore, it’s extra important that the image is congruent to your business’ online voice. Is your Facebook page casual and a friendly place for fans to interact with your business? If so, make sure your new cover image reflects that tone.

Facebook Timeline is new for everyone, so it’s ok to try out different photos and images to see how your fans react.  Have fun with it!
