Snake bites? Just another day at the Momentum office!

It’s not often that we have wildlife encounters here at the Momentum office. Daniel Island, South Carolina, where our office is located, is a tranquil suburb of the greater Charleston area, so it was a shock to us all when our Owner and Founder Pam Hartley’s son was bitten by a rattlesnake just down the street from us earlier this month. The attack created quite a commotion in the surrounding community, with many asking, how could such a thing happen in a developed neighborhood?

Thankfully, the littlest Hartley was a brave soul and soon recuperated after a few overnight stays at MUSC Children’s Hospital. Turns out that rattlesnakes and reptiles of all sorts are found within the area, so it was a learning experience not just for us but for the community. Check out Jacob’s story in the Daniel Island News, which made not only the cover but a center spread!

Despite the biting experience, we’re glad to turn this unnerving experience into some positive press. Jacob’s classmates also got a useful lesson on snake safety and what to look out for in the Charleston wilds, while the rest of us are going to keep a closer eye on the brush and watch our feet.
