Social Media Campaign Pays Tribute to Sarah Jones

photoIf you watched last night’s Oscar ceremony, you saw the “in memoriam” tribute that features fallen talents from this year.

The “in memoriam” montages are produced well-before the air date of the Academy Awards and, sadly, often forget many notable stars. But friends and fans of camera assistant, Sarah Jones, were not going to let that happen.

The power of social media prompted the Academy of Motion Pictures to place this graphic at the end of the “in memoriam” portion of the Oscars broadcast last night.

The “Slates For Sarah” campaign has taken over social media and has received recognition from shows including “The Walking Dead” and “The Vampire Diaries,” and circulated a petition collecting over 55,000 signatures asking that Sarah be included in the Oscars tribute.

The Columbia, South Carolina woman was killed by a train in Savannah, Georgia during a shoot last week and after the Facebook page “Slates for Sarah” was created, it was abundantly clear that Sarah should be honored. During the end of the montage, a final slide was dedicated for Sarah.

We were so pleased The Academy honored this spirited, young woman. You can visit the Slates for Sarah Facebook page HERE.
