Momentum Marketing Team Interviews The Inspirational Liz Kapperman

Momentum Marketing Public Relations Director Emily Trogdon and Account Executive Gillian Mechling were so honored to meet Liz Kapperman at Wonder Works, which is now carrying Painting’s by Liz!

Emily and Gillian interviewed Liz to learn about her paintings and why they are so unique.

Liz discovered her love of painting after a tragic car accident in 2006 that left her a C5/C6 quadriplegic. After being paralyzed for months, she regained the use of very few muscles in her upper body. She was introduced to painting during occupational therapy and completely fell in love with the art.

“I went from being independent and stubborn, to being completely dependent and having to rely on others to help me with every single daily task, even to scratch an itch. But painting gives me a reason to get out of bed every morning,” said Liz.

With just the movements of her upper shoulder (no use of her fingers, elbow or her entire arm), Liz creates beautiful floral and abstract paintings. She paints with the canvas in her lap, while each painting takes up to 40 hours (and sometimes more) to complete.

Since she can only use her shoulder painting can be tiresome and sometimes painful for her. But she triumphs over the pain because she is that passionate about creating her artwork.

“I never knew I was artistic. But the second I put the brush in my hand I escape into another world.  I’m smiling now just thinking about painting, I love it so much,” said Liz. “I just want people to see my paintings and fall in love with them just as I have.”

Liz is a true inspiration to us all and proves that passion can overcome even the greatest of obstacles!

The profits from these paintings will help Liz pay for her medical bills and personal care. Stop by Wonder Works in West Ashley and Mt. Pleasant to see “Paintings By Liz” today!
