Multiple Social Media Profiles? Vary Your Content

Like the average Internet user, you probably have several social media profiles across the Web where you share and post content. (We post content on this blog, on Twitter and on our Facebook page.) If you have invested time conversing in each medium, you probably know that it takes a different kind of conversation to engage the users across the board. If you haven’t, we’ll give you the scoop!

Don’t expect the conversation to flow if you only post the same content on all social media pages. Each page should be treated individually, since it’s the page’s individuals with whom you want to interact. If your business has fans that follow you across these multiple profiles, keep that in mind: they’re keeping tabs on your creativity, conversation, and the way you interact with each and every user. Treating them like numbers is something they’ll notice immediately.

Here are a few of our tips to keep the conversation flowing and varied:

  • Linking is good, but sharing is better. It’s good to post interesting links to Facebook, your blog and Twitter, but make sure you provide a caption for each. Facebook fans are looking to Like something and offer a comment; Twitter might want to retweet it to their followers or start a conversation with you; and with your blog, think about how it fits within your blog’s context as a whole to frame the message. Putting out a single link with no context provided won’t give your followers any direction.
  • Understand what draws your fans’ attention. When posting to Facebook, do you get a lot of responses to photos you share? Do your Twitter followers like seeing the behind-the-scenes of your business? Do your blog’s readers respond to industry updates? Keep all of this in mind when you’re updating your pages to get the most feedback.
  • Know your voice and don’t veer from it. If your Facebook and Twitter keeps your fans in the know of new products you’re offering and your business’ day-to-day operations, throwing in a personal post might confuse your followers. Keep it professional and in-line with the rest of the news you’re sharing.
